Spitalfields in East London is a young, creative part of the East End and has historically  been home to waves of immigrants seeking refuge from persecution or poverty – Hugenots, Irish, Jews, Bangladeshi’s have all found a welcome here and a springboard into a new life.

Today the area is famous for its restaurants and market. New creative shops are springing up alongside Georgian houses and in parts there is a fresh coat of graffiti each time I visit.

This image started from a photograph of graffiti I found in a side street (see below), and I manipulated it to create a new piece of art. Thank you to my unknown co-creators for the inspiration.

Spitalfields – the starting point for this print.
